A VPS (virtual private server) is a slice of a physical server that behaves like its own machine. A hypervisor such as KVM or Hyper-V splits the hardware into isolated virtual machines, and each one gets its own operating system, reserved vCPU and RAM, storage and IP address. Other customers on the same hardware can't use your resources or see your files.
A cheap VPS is simply an entry-level plan, usually 1 to 2 vCPU and 1 to 4GB of RAM for $3 to $10 a month. That is enough for a WordPress site, a small store, a game or bot server, a VPN, or a test environment. You get full root access, so you can install any software, which shared hosting doesn't allow. When you outgrow it, you upgrade the plan instead of moving to an expensive dedicated server.
The price on the sales page is often an intro rate. Here is what each VPS costs when it renews, and the promo code to use if there is one.

Bluehost, Hostinger and Hosting.com only sell Linux VPS. Contabo offers Windows Server as a paid add-on. For free options, see our free Windows VPS list.
Linux is the cheaper choice because there is no license fee. Every provider on this page sells a Linux VPS, and most run it on KVM, a hypervisor that gives your server its own kernel and reserved RAM. You get full root access over SSH and can install Ubuntu, Debian, AlmaLinux or Rocky Linux, then set up a LAMP or LEMP stack, Docker, or a control panel.
The lowest-priced Linux plans here are InterServer at $3/mo, YouStable at $3.67/mo and Bluehost at $4.69/mo. If you are comfortable managing the server yourself, our unmanaged Linux VPS guide goes deeper.
If you serve large files, video or a lot of visitors, bandwidth limits matter as much as price. Here is what each entry plan includes.

You install the OS, apply security updates, set up the firewall and take backups. It suits developers and anyone who knows Linux. InterServer, Bluehost, Contabo, Hostinger and Verpex sell self-managed VPS.
The host handles OS updates, security patches and troubleshooting. UltaHost is the cheapest managed VPS on our list, and ScalaHosting's managed VPS includes its own SPanel control panel. More in our managed VPS hosting guide.

A low monthly price only helps if the VPS has the features your project needs. Check these before you order, because some hosts charge extra for them.
Switch your OS or rebuild your server stack. Do everything from your DirectAdmin dashboard. Run the operating system you actually want. Shared hosting locks you into one environment. With free VPS lifetime, you choose your OS. Install CentOS, Ubuntu, Debian, AlmaLinux, or Windows Server.
Bots are hammering your login page? Block the traffic source before they reach your website. A website with no firewall is an open door. Brute-force attacks hit unprotected servers every day. Set your own rules. Whitelists the reliable IPs. You decide what gets in and what gets stopped at the gate.
Your website gets its own address on the internet. Sharing one IP with multiple users is the worst! If a user gets blacklisted, your site gets caught in the same net. A dedicated IP fixes this permanently. Your IP belongs to you alone. Your sender reputation stays clean. Your SSL certificate works correctly.
Run multiple apps on one server. Modern apps run in containers. Docker, Kubernetes, LXC! These tools let you isolate every app in its own environment. Free VPS hosting supports full container deployment. One server. Multiple isolated apps. Each runs its own dependencies. You can scale individual containers.
Recover anything. Lose nothing. Data loss is not a matter of IF. It is a matter of WHEN. A bad deployment or an accidental file deletion, these happen to every website sooner or later. We run automatic daily backups of your entire VPS. Restore your website to a previous version in one click.
Are you migrating to a new plugin! Run it in the testing environment first, push only when it passes. Test every change before it touches your live site. Pushing changes directly to production is one of the most expensive mistakes in web development. Build and test changes in a private clone of your live website.
Real reviews from real people. See why developers, creators and businesses choose GoogieHost over every other free host.
I've tried 6 different free hosts. GoogieHost is the first that truly delivers on uptime and speed. My WordPress site loads faster than it did on a $20/mo plan elsewhere.
The AI website builder blew my mind. I described my bakery in two sentences and had a complete site with images and copy ready in under a minute.
As a student I needed free hosting that didn't throttle my portfolio. GoogieHost gives me NVMe speed, SSL and real uptime completely free. Nothing else comes close.
I have used GoogieHost for almost 2 months now and I just love it, DirectAdmin, good control panel, 5 out of 5 since it's very good hosting.
I'm here to recommend Sneha Tiwari from Technical Support, she fixed hard errors on my entire website and domain. She deserves a lot of recognition.
I found it stable, beautiful, strong and connected throughout the day. The server does not stop and is characterized by speed and stability. Support is fast and professional.
Migrated our nonprofit from Wix the team handled everything. Load times dropped from 4s to under 1 second. Our donation page conversions went up 23% that month.
Support responds in minutes. I submitted a ticket at 2am and had a resolution by 2:15am. That's genuinely rare even from hosts charging $30/month.
The control panel is the cleanest I've used. Managing 12 client sites used to take all day. With GoogieHost it's a 20-minute job. I recommend it to every web agency.
I am completely satisfied with GoogieHost's technical support. I am always contacted within 24 hours. I thoroughly recommend the service for budding website owners.
Great service for a novice webmaster, just what our small NFP veterans' association needed. Support has been prompt and patient. Price is right, our only revenue is donations.
Best service and quick support. I think it is the best hosting service friendly behaviour, and I will use it in the future.
