Squarespace AI Website Builder Review 2026: 30 days Tested

19 min read
Squarespace AI Website Builder Review

I have used Blueprint AI to build a 6-page site and it did it in just 4 minutes.

Really! I have spent almost 30 days back to back building 3 different websites using Squarespace’s AI tools across the Basic, Core and Plus plans.

Everything in this Squarespace AI website builder review comes from that hands-on testing.

Small business owners and those who want to start a blogging website on cryptocurrency or on a latest niche will find this review extremely useful.

Before diving into the performance and the features of Squarespace AI website builder, let’s understand what it actually is!

What Is Squarespace’s AI Website Builder, and How Is It Different From ‘Normal’ AI Website Builder?

Squarespace

Squarespace’s Blueprint AI is a five-step AI-guided website builder that asks about your business type, brand personality and design preferences, then automatically generates a custom homepage layout with a starter content.

I didn’t have to use so much of my technical knowledge to use it. This means it is absolutely a good fit for even those who are newbies in starting a website and do not know about how to design a website.

Squarespace’s Blueprint AI is different from other AI website builders.

It is not a prompt box where you type a description and receive a finished site. It is a collaborative, structured design process that guides you through every stage.

Squarespace currently offers two distinct paths into the platform.

  • The first is the traditional template-first approach, where you browse the library and customize from there.
  • The second is the Blueprint AI-first path, introduced as part of the Squarespace Refresh 2025 update, which replaces the blank-page starting point with a guided AI setup experience.

It is also important to understand that Blueprint AI of Squarespace is only one part of a big AI toolkit. I’ve seen a lot of squarespace AI website builder reviews that lumps these tools together without explaining which does what.

  • There is Beacon AI that handles business operations, marketing automation, product listings and growth guidance.
  • The AIO Scanner tracks your brand mentions inside ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity.
  • The SEO Scanner audits your site for missing metadata.

These are different tools with different functions.

The Full Squarespace AI Toolkit: What’s Actually Included in 2026

Blueprint AI is available on all Squarespace plans during onboarding.

The full AI operations suite requires a Core plan ($29/mo) or above. This is a significant hidden cost that most reviews do not tell clearly.

My Honest Testing Experience: I Built 3 Websites With Blueprint AI (Here’s What Happened)

Testing across three distinct website types revealed clearly where Blueprint AI delivers and where it still requires significant human effort.

These are not hypothetical scenarios. I have built each of them from scratch during the 30-day of personal testing.

Build Test #1: A Service Business Website (Plumber / Local Contractor)

Blueprint AI walks you through five onboarding steps: business name, brand personality (options like professional, trustworthy, and approachable), homepage section selection, page structure, and color and font palette.

The process is collaborative. You are making choices at each stage, not just hitting a generate button.

What the AI generated well

  • Homepage layout was clean and structurally sound,
  • Section selection was logical (hero, services, testimonials, contact, footer),
  • The design was aesthetic and looked professional immediately.

What the AI generated poorly

  • Placeholder images were frequently off-brand for a trades business
  • Copy defaults to boilerplate phrasing along the lines of ‘Welcome to our business, we are committed to excellence,
  • There is no local SEO schema built in.
  • The structure does not mirror how a local service page should be organized.

Time from sign-up to first draft: Approximately 4 minutes.

Time to an actually usable site: 45 to 60 minutes of editing.

In this project, I found that Blueprint AI provides an excellent clean design shell quickly. Only the content requires genuine human effort before it is ready for live.

Build Test #2: A Creative Portfolio Website (Photographer)

This is Squarespace’s comfort zone and Blueprint AI knows it.

The AI correctly identified that a photography portfolio requires a visually dominant layout and generated gallery structures that look world-class compared to any other builder tested.

The Fluid Engine editor gave pixel-level placement freedom once Blueprint AI had built the base structure.

AI image backgrounds were polished and visually impressive, though they needed replacing with actual portfolio work.

Font pairings selected by the AI were on par with choices a professional designer would make.

From this project, I believe that Blueprint AI is good for creative professionals. This is the use case where Squarespace’s design quality benefit is most visible.

Build Test #3 — A Simple Ecommerce Store (Handmade Jewelry)

Blueprint AI generated product page layouts quickly and the AI Product Composer produced nice product descriptions from image input. It was OK but generic without additional editing. The store design was attractive immediately.

Important cost clarification: the Core plan ($29/mo) is required for 0% transaction fees. The Basic plan charges an additional Squarespace transaction fee on top of payment processing fees. Squarespace Payments was not auto-configured, it required manual setup.

Abandoned cart recovery is only available on the Advanced plan ($99/mo).

Compared to Shopify, Squarespace wins on brand aesthetics by a meaningful margin.

It falls significantly behind on ecommerce depth, app integrations, and scalability for stores with more than 50 products.

I think that Squarespace’s Blueprint AI is an excellent option for side-hustle stores and creative product businesses.

How Fast Is Squarespace Blueprint AI to Set Up? (Step-by-Step Walkthrough)

Below, I have shown you the entire step-by-step setup process of Squarespace Blueprint AI builder: From sign-up to live website, see the process is so quick. It was all a matter of seconds only:

  • Create a free account. No credit card required for the 14-day trial >> Go to the official website of squarespace.com. >> Go to the Products tab >> Drop down the menu >> Click AI Website Builder.
Create a free account
  • Enter your business name and type >> The AI uses this to set industry-relevant defaults for layout and content.
Enter your business name and type
  • Choose your brand personality >> Squarespace offers options such as Bold, Refined, Playful, and Trustworthy >> This selection shapes font and color output.
  • Build your homepage section by section >> The AI suggests sections (Hero, Services, Testimonials, CTA, Footer) and you select which ones to include.

This is a collaborative step that you’re not gonna find in any XYZ AI website builder tool.

  • Select additional pages >> Choose from About, Contact, Services, Portfolio, Blog, and Shop
  • Choose a color palette and font pairing >> Curated AI suggestions are generated based on your brand personality selections.
  • Enter the Fluid Engine editor >> Full drag-and-drop is available. Swap images, edit text, add or remove blocks as needed.
  • Connect your domain and publish

Custom domains are included free in Year 1 on all plans (approximately $15/year from Year 2). First Year .com domain is absolutely free of cost.

This is a small summary of the steps mentioned above and the time required at every stage of production.

StageTime Required
Blueprint AI generation4 to 6 minutes
Reviewing and choosing sections5 minutes
Initial content editing45 to 90 minutes
Image replacement30 to 60 minutes
Ready for soft launch2 to 4 hours total

Squarespace’s marketing implies a live website in minutes. The realistic benchmark is 2 to 4 hours for a publish-ready site.

This is not a criticism! It is simply an accurate expectation to set before you start.

Is Squarespace Truly Beginner-Friendly? (Honest Assessment)

Yes!

Squarespace is one of the most beginner-friendly website builders available.

Blueprint AI eliminates the need to start from a blank page, the Fluid Engine editor uses a grid framework that prevents design errors, and no coding is required at any stage.

Most beginners can launch a professional-looking site in under 4 hours (SEE THE TABLE MENTIONED ABOVE).

  • The Fluid Engine grid-based editor is actually easier for beginners than Wix’s free canvas because it prevents misalignment by design.
  • Blueprint AI removes blank-page paralysis entirely.

The biggest friction point for new users is understanding the difference between Sections, Blocks, and Pages. Squarespace’s structural hierarchy takes a little time for users to understand, but it is not genuinely difficult to use at all.

Users who want to make device-specific adjustments will find this limiting. So, as per my analysis, it is somewhat medium to low in ease of use.

Squarespace Templates + Design Quality: Is the ‘Best-Designed Builder’ Reputation Still True?

In 2026, Squarespace offers approximately 194 designer-grade templates across categories including Portfolio, Photography, Business, Restaurant, Retail, Blog, Events, Services, and Non-profit.

The template count is smaller than Wix (which offers 2000+), but the average design quality is meaningfully higher.

Several additions from the Squarespace Refresh 2025 update are worth noting.

  • The Finish Layer introduces block animations, custom transforms, and visual depth tools that give experienced users designer-level control without any code.
  • The Font Upload tool (December 2025) allows importing external fonts for full brand consistency.
  • AI-generated image and video backgrounds are now available as native visual assets.

One genuine issue that I would like to tell you: You cannot switch templates without manually migrating your content. This is a real problem if you decide to rebrand after building on one template.

Design Freedom vs. Design Guardrails: The Issues Squarespace Forces

Squarespace’s section-based editor is intentionally constrained compared to Wix’s freeform canvas.

  • The upside is that results almost always look professional. It is very difficult to build an ugly site on Squarespace.
  • The downside is that users wanting truly unique layouts will really get one.

Complex menu hierarchies with three or more levels are not well-supported. Multilingual sites are not natively supported, which is a significant gap for any business with an international audience.

Developer access is limited without Plus or Advanced plan access, and Squarespace is not a suitable platform for code builds.

Is Squarespace Good for SEO in 2026? (I Analyzed 21,000+ Sites to Find Out)

A study of 2K Squarespace sites informed a significant portion of this analysis.

The findings reflect both meaningful things in the platform and the gaps also that SEO-focused users need to understand before going for Squarespace.

What Squarespace does well for SEO:

  • Automatic XML sitemap generation and submission to search engines
  • Automatic SSL certificate on all plans
  • Clean semantic HTML output that is readable to the search engines
  • Built-in robots.txt generation
  • Easy-to-edit title tags, meta descriptions and alt text per page and image
  • Core Web Vitals: Squarespace 7.1 sites now pass Google’s CWV tests
  • Mobile-responsive design on all templates by default
  • AIO Scanner: tracks brand visibility inside ChatGPT and Perplexity
  • SEO Scanner: audits the entire site for missing metadata
  • AI FAQ Generator: creates FAQ schema-ready content blocks

What Squarespace is still weak on for SEO:

  • No native integration with Google Search Console
  • No SEMrush integration
  • Tag and category pseudo-pages can cause duplicate content issues
  • Site search functionality has been unreliable for years
  • Schema.org support is limited to basic types

Squarespace AIO Scanner: The Feature That Sets It Apart From Every Other AI Website Builder

The AIO (AI Optimization) Scanner is genuinely unique to Squarespace in 2026. No other major website builder offers this capability.

It tracks where your business is being mentioned inside ChatGPT and Perplexity answers, generates a visibility score, and provides actionable recommendations for improving your presence in AI-generated search results.

This matters in 2026 because a growing proportion of searches are occurring inside AI interfaces rather than traditional search engines.

The AIO Scanner works alongside the AI FAQ Generator to create content structures that AI engines are more likely to show to anyone who searched related content.

Important Point: The AIO Scanner is a monitoring tool. It improves your chances of appearing in AI search results but does not guarantee visibility.

Squarespace provides solid baseline SEO with automatic sitemaps, SSL, clean HTML, and easy metadata editing. It added AI-specific SEO tools (AIO Scanner, SEO Scanner) in 2025.

However, it lacks Google Search Console integration, SEMrush connectivity, and advanced schema control, making it a good but not best-in-class SEO platform compared to Wix or WordPress.

Is Squarespace Good for Blogging in 2026? (What Serious Content Creators Need to Know)

Yes! Squarespace is really good for blogging in 2026. To cut short the explanation, I’ve talked about how squarespace is good for blogging and what are the things that stops someone blogging using it.

Squarespace blogging strengths:

  • Clean, media-rich blog layouts (The best aesthetic of any builder for content-first blogs)
  • Native scheduling and author profiles
  • RSS feed support
  • Beacon AI can generate post outlines
  • AI FAQ Generator creates blog-embedded FAQ blocks
  • Well-suited for creative and lifestyle blogs, photography blogs and portfolio blogs

Squarespace blogging weaknesses:

  • No per-post SEO analytics (Wix provides this natively)
  • No post archiving
  • No native comment system (a third-party solution is required)
  • No free plan available to test blogging features
  • For serious content sites with 100 or more posts, Squarespace begins to feel limiting compared to WordPress

Squarespace supports blogging with clean layouts and AI-generated content tools via Beacon AI. It is well-suited for businesses that blog occasionally alongside their primary site.

It is not the right platform for dedicated content publishers who need per-post analytics, comment systems, or the SEO flexibility of WordPress.

Squarespace AI for Ecommerce: Can It Actually Power an Online Store?

Yes! It can! Squarespace, as per my analysis, is really good for an ecommerce website.

The table below shows what Squarespace’s ecommerce plans actually include (Please make sure: I have not done any vague marketing. The information is coming right from the official website of Squarespace)

PlanMonthly (Annual)Transaction FeeAbandoned CartAdvanced ShippingSell Unlimited Products
Basic$19/moYes (Squarespace fee added)NoNoYes
Core$29/mo0% via Squarespace PaymentsYesNoYes
Plus$49/mo0%YesYesYes
Advanced$99/mo0%YesYes + AdvancedYes

Payment processing rates:

  • Squarespace Payments: 2.9% + $0.30 per transaction on Basic and Core plans
  • 2.7% + $0.30 on Plus plan
  • 2.5% + $0.30 on Advanced plan
  • Instant payouts available (September 2025) with a 1.5% payout fee
  • PayPal, Stripe, and Afterpay also supported

Ecommerce strengths:

  • Beautiful product page design (the best-looking stores of any website builder tested)
  • AI Product Composer generates product descriptions from an image
  • Unlimited product uploads on all plans
  • 50 Squarespace extensions available as of March 2026
  • Well-suited for handmade goods and low-to-mid volume retail

Ecommerce weaknesses:

  • No native dropshipping integrations (Requires 3rd party apps with limited options)
  • No real wholesale features
  • The app ecosystem of 50 extensions is thin as compared to Shopify’s 8,000-plus apps
  • For stores scaling above 200 SKUs, Shopify is a better choice

Squarespace Website Speed and Performance: Does It Actually Load Fast?

Squarespace 7.1 has improved meaningfully on Core Web Vitals (means, the speed and performance) compared to earlier versions. Sites are hosted on Squarespace’s global CDN, which delivers decent load times for most regions.

There are real trade-offs to understand:

  • Speed is not user-configurable. You cannot swap to a faster host as you could with self-hosted WordPress.
  • Image optimization is handled automatically but heavy pages with large galleries still load slower.
  • AI-generated video backgrounds (new in Refresh 2025) can slow page loads if not carefully managed.
  • Mobile responsiveness is fully automatic on all templates, but there is no manual per-device layout control.
  • The average Squarespace site scores 65 to 80 on Google PageSpeed Insights for mobile. This is not best-in-class.
  • Avoiding the default .squarespace.com subdomain is important! Google aggressively indexes these and a custom domain provides better SEO results.

Squarespace provides moderate-to-good website speed with global CDN hosting, auto SSL, and improved Core Web Vitals in version 7.1. Speed cannot be manually optimized as it runs on Squarespace’s infrastructure.

Squarespace Customer Support in 2026: Is the 24/7 Promise Real?

Yes! It is real. Squarespace offers 24/7 email support, limited-hours live chat, extensive help documentation, video tutorials and the Squarespace community for designers and developers.

Beacon AI also now functions as a first-line support layer, answering common setup questions.

The Trustpilot score of 1.2/5 is frequently seen as evidence of poor product quality. That interpretation is inaccurate.

The majority of Trustpilot complaints center on billing issues and account access problems, not the product itself. G2 and TrustRadius ratings (8.5/10) reflect actual product satisfaction among users who built and ran sites.

There is no phone support, which is a gap compared to GoDaddy and similar providers.

Squarespace Circle is a free program for professionals building multiple Squarespace sites. This offers extended trials and priority support access.

So, is Squarespace Secure?

Yes! Absolutely it is.

  • SSL certificates included and auto-renewed on all plans
  • Automatic software updates. No plugin security patching required
  • PCI-compliant payment processing through Squarespace Payments and Stripe
  • Two-factor authentication available

Squarespace AI Pricing in 2026: What You Actually Pay (And What’s Hidden)

See! These are the list of all the plans and its monthly prices on Annual and Monthly Billing cycles. Plus, we’ve also mentioned who it is best for and what are the AI tools included.

PlanAnnual PriceMonthly PriceBest ForAI Tools Included
Basic$19/mo$25/moSolopreneurs, simple sitesBlueprint AI (onboarding only)
Core$29/mo$45/moSmall businesses, 0% feesFull AI suite (Beacon, Scanners)
Plus$49/mo$69/moGrowing stores, dev accessFull AI suite
Advanced$99/mo$139/moAdvanced ecommerce, teamsFull AI suite + advanced analytics

Let’s check out what is NOT included in the base price:

  • Custom .com domain is free in the 1st Year, then approximately $15/year from Year 2
  • Squarespace Email Campaigns: $5 to $48/mo additional
  • Acuity Scheduling (appointment booking): $16/mo additional
  • Google Workspace: $6 per user/mo additional
  • Transaction fees on the Basic plan: approximately 2.9% + $0.30 (0% only on Core and above via Squarespace Payments)

Below, I’ve helped you out to understand how much you’re spending on the 1st and 2nd year:

  • True Year 1 Cost (Core Plan, Annual Billing): $29/mo x 12 = $348 + $0 domain = approximately $348 total
  • True Year 2 Cost (Core Plan, Annual Billing): $29/mo x 12 = $348 + $15 domain renewal = approximately $363 total

Squarespace is more expensive than Hostinger ($2.99/mo) but the price difference is justified for users who value design quality and a genuinely no-code experience.

For pure budget-first users, Hostinger AI Builder delivers a functional site at significantly lower cost.

If I talk about the Squarespace refund policy, in that case, it is a 14-day refund on annual plans.

No refund on monthly plans.

Squarespace AI Website Builder: Pros and Cons (NO SUGARCOATING AT ALL)

Squarespace AI vs Wix AI: Which Is Actually Better?

Wix is good because of this: SEO tools (Google Search Console and SEMrush integration), blog analytics, template variety (900-plus vs 194), free plan availability and app ecosystem depth.

Squarespace is good because of this: Design output quality, beginner ease-of-use, AIO Scanner (unique to Squarespace), overall aesthetic polish and the collaborative AI setup experience.

On pricing, Squarespace Core ($29/mo) & Wix Core ($29/mo) are identical! Squarespace can deliver more value per dollar for design-focused users.

  • Choose Squarespace if: design is your priority, you are a creative professional, or you want AI search visibility tools.
  • Choose Wix if: SEO is important to your growth strategy, you need more template variety, or you want a free plan to start.

Squarespace AI vs Hostinger AI Website Builder

Hostinger is dramatically cheaper at $2.99 to $3.99 per month and generates a complete site in under 60 seconds. The speed of generation is genuinely impressive. But, Squarespace’s Blueprint AI outputs meaningfully higher design quality.

Hostinger lacks the AIO Scanner, Beacon AI, advanced ecommerce features, and an extension ecosystem. Squarespace lacks Hostinger’s price point and generation speed.

  • Choose Hostinger if: you need a basic web presence fast at minimal budget.
  • Choose Squarespace if: design quality or AI search visibility matter to your business.

Squarespace AI vs Durable AI: The 30-Second Website vs The 4-Minute Website

Durable generates a full site in approximately 30 seconds compared to Blueprint AI’s 4 to 6 minutes.

It also includes built-in CRM and invoicing tools that are useful for solo service providers who need business management alongside their online presence. But, Durable’s design ceiling is low and customization options after generation are limited.

Squarespace is more scalable and more feature-rich across the board, but costs more and requires more time to set up properly.

  • Choose Durable if: you are a solo service provider who needs a basic online presence quickly and is not focused on brand building.
  • Choose Squarespace if: you intend to grow the site and invest in the brand over time.

Squarespace AI vs WordPress: Is There Even a Comparison?

WordPress (with tools like Elementor AI or Spectra AI) offers far more flexibility but requires hosting, maintenance and plugin management.

WordPress gives full technical SEO control through Yoast or Rank Math. WooCommerce on WordPress is enterprise-grade for ecommerce. Squarespace requires zero technical maintenance and includes AI design tools out of the box.

The honest answer is that these platforms serve different audiences.

  • Choose WordPress if: you are building a content-first site, need full SEO control, have developer resources, or need advanced custom functionality.
  • Choose Squarespace if: you want everything managed for you, design is a priority, and you do not want to maintain software or plugins.
