Hosting Checker: Find Who Hosts Any Website
Find out who hosts any website. See the hosting provider, server IP, domain registrar and domain dates in seconds.
Want to know who is hosting a website? Maybe a competitor’s site loads faster than yours, you are planning a migration, or you need to report a phishing page to the right company. GoogieHost’s free Hosting Checker answers that in seconds.
Enter any website URL and the tool shows you the hosting provider, the server IP address, the domain registrar and the domain’s creation, expiry and last-updated dates. No signup, no limits and no technical skills needed.
What Does the Hosting Checker Show?
Each lookup returns these details for the website you enter:
| Result | What it tells you |
|---|---|
| Hosting | The company that owns the server or network the website runs on, such as AWS, Hostinger or Cloudflare. |
| Server IP | The IP address the domain points to, which is used to find the hosting network. You can also get it with our Domain to IP tool. |
| Registrar | The company the domain name was registered with, such as GoDaddy or Namecheap. |
| Creation Date | When the domain was first registered, which hints at how established the website is. Use the Domain Age Checker to see the exact age. |
| Expiration Date | When the domain registration is due to expire unless it is renewed. |
| Updated Date | When the domain’s registration details were last changed. |
How to Check Who Is Hosting a Website

- Click Check: The tool looks up the domain in real time, usually in a few seconds.
- Read the results: You will see the hosting provider, server IP, registrar and domain dates in one table.
Not sure what to try? Click Sample to run a test lookup, or Reset to clear the form.
How Does a Hosting Checker Work?
A hosting checker follows the same steps a technician would, just automatically:
- DNS lookup: It resolves the domain name to the IP address of the server that answers for it.
- IP ownership lookup: It checks which company owns that IP address and the network (ASN) it belongs to. That owner is usually the hosting provider.
- WHOIS lookup: It reads the domain’s registration record to find the registrar and the creation, expiry and update dates. For the full record, run a Whois Domain Lookup.
Why Does the Result Show Cloudflare (or Another CDN)?
Many websites sit behind a CDN or reverse proxy such as Cloudflare, Fastly or Akamai. In that case the domain points to the CDN’s IP address, not to the real server, so any hosting checker will show the CDN as the host.
This is normal and is often done on purpose to improve speed and security. The website’s actual hosting company is hidden behind the CDN and cannot be seen from public DNS records.
Hosting Provider vs Domain Registrar vs DNS Provider
These are often different companies, which is why one lookup can show several names:
| Service | What it does | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Hosting provider | Stores the website files and runs the server | AWS, Hostinger, YouStable |
| Domain registrar | Sells and manages the domain name registration | GoDaddy, Namecheap |
| DNS provider | Answers DNS queries and points the domain to the server | Cloudflare, Route 53 |
| Email provider | Handles the domain’s email through its MX records | Google Workspace, Zoho Mail |
For example, a site can register its domain with Namecheap, use Cloudflare for DNS, host files on AWS and send email through Google Workspace.
Can You Always Find the Exact Host?
Most of the time, yes, but a few setups can hide or blur the real host:
- CDNs and proxies: Services like Cloudflare show their own network instead of the origin server.
- Resellers: Many small hosts rent servers from larger companies, so the result may show the data center owner (for example OVH or Hetzner) rather than the brand you buy from.
- Cloud platforms: Managed hosts often run on AWS, Google Cloud or DigitalOcean, so the cloud provider appears as the host.
- Private WHOIS: Registrar data can be partly hidden by privacy protection, although the registrar name and dates are usually still visible.
Popular Hosting Networks You May See
These large networks appear often in hosting checker results:
| Network | ASN | What it usually means |
|---|---|---|
| Cloudflare | AS13335 | The site uses Cloudflare as a CDN or proxy; the real host is hidden |
| Amazon Web Services | AS16509 | Hosted on AWS, directly or through a managed host |
| Google Cloud | AS15169 | Hosted on Google Cloud infrastructure |
| Microsoft Azure | AS8075 | Hosted on Microsoft’s cloud |
| DigitalOcean | AS14061 | Cloud VPS, often used by developers and managed hosts |
| OVHcloud | AS16276 | Dedicated servers or VPS, often rented by smaller hosts |
| Hetzner | AS24940 | Dedicated servers or cloud, popular in Europe |
When Should You Use a Hosting Checker?
- Competitor research: See which host fast-loading competitors use before you choose or switch hosting.
- Website migration: Confirm that your domain now points to your new host after moving a site, then check it responds correctly with the Server Status Checker and HTTP Status Code Checker.
- Abuse and DMCA reports: Find the hosting company to contact about phishing, spam or copied content.
- Buying a domain or website: Check the registrar, domain age and expiry date before you pay.
- Client audits: Agencies can quickly see where a prospect’s site is hosted and spot upgrade opportunities. Pair it with the WordPress Theme Detector to see how the site is built.
FAQs
How do I find out who is hosting a website?
Enter the website’s URL into the GoogieHost Hosting Checker and click Check. The tool shows the hosting provider, server IP, registrar and domain dates in a few seconds.
Is this hosting checker free?
Yes. The Hosting Checker is completely free, with no signup and no limit on how many websites you check.
Why does the hosting checker show Cloudflare?
The website uses Cloudflare as a CDN or reverse proxy, so its domain points to Cloudflare’s network. The real hosting company is hidden behind Cloudflare and cannot be seen publicly.
What is the difference between a hosting provider and a domain registrar?
The hosting provider runs the server that stores the website, while the registrar is the company the domain name was registered with. They can be the same company or two different ones.
How accurate is the result?
The result is accurate for the network the domain points to. If the site uses a CDN, a reseller or a cloud platform, you will see that network rather than the brand the owner pays.
Can I check my own website’s hosting?
Yes. Enter your own domain to confirm which host and IP it points to, which is useful after a migration or DNS change.
