How to Change Your Nameservers?

If your domain is registered with Hostens, default nameservers will be created automatically. But if you want to change your nameserver for the domain, then read the steps mentioned here.

  • Then click on Manage Nameservers, which can be seen under the table given on the screen

  • You can now choose between selecting default nameservers or can create custom servers
  • You can make all the changes to the nameservers here and click on Save.

How Do I Find My Domain Nameservers?

To check on the Hostens Nameserver for your domain, you must first log in to your account o Hostens. Then go to Domains and select the domain name to see the name servers for that particular domain.

Find the Hostens Nameserver tab under manage nameservers. You can see the nameservers for your domain that has been set.

How To Check DNS Records Of A Domain?

The best way to check the DNS records of a domain is by using a terminal. You must use the command nslookup. You can use this command on a majority of the operating system like Windows, Linux, macOS, etc. Here you can discover different commands to check different DNS records of a domain you have created.

Below the domain name, hostens.com is used to recognize quickly. Access the terminal window.  Type the command nslookup – type=A hosten.com. This command line is to check the A record of your domain. The output will look like the following:

How To Create Private Nameservers?

  • Access the client area by entering the username and password
  • Click on Services which can be seen on the left side
  • Under Services click on DNS followed by DNS Manager
  • Now click on the domain name for which you want to create a private nameserver
  • Press on Add a new record in the A record section
  • You must enter the subdomains for your domain
  • Click on Submit
  • After you finish changing or add a new private nameserver, you must add the domain to your cPanel account
  • Select the DNS Manager option again and click on the domain you added just now. Then click on the Edit button next to the NS records.
  • Enter the new nameserver you created and click on Submit ( remember to do the same for the second nameserver too.

How to Create a Nameserver With Your Domain?

  • Now add the domain to VPS. The procedure to do this depends on the operating system. You can check this link for reference.
  • Click on Services followed by the DNS
  • Select DNS Manager
  • Now click on Add Domain
  • Enter the domain for creating the nameserver. Make sure to enter the IP address too
  • Select Use Premade DNS template from the three options given
  • Click on Submit
  • Now you must go back to the DNS manager section and click on the added domain name
  • Click on Add new record on the A records section
  • Now in the Name field, enter the subdomain. Example, ns1. In the content, field add Hostens first nameserver’s IP address
  • Click on Submit button
  • When the changes have been made you can use the subdomains you create as your nameservers for other domains.
  • Add the subdomain with your current registrar(if not hostens)
  • Now click on the DNS manager section again click on DNS Manager
  • Add another domain and in the NS records section click on the Edit button
  • Enter the nameserver you created in the content field
  • Click on Submit

Repeat the same process for the second nameserver as well. You will have to wait for a few hours for the propagation to happen.
