MySQL

Databases are the hearts of modern dynamic websites. You cannot make a web platform without them. All CMS systems like WordPress, Joomla, Drupal and Magento use databases.

MySQL is an open source database management system. In this tutorial we are going to learn how to create and maintain MySQL database using the cPanel of your website.

MySQL databases can be created in two ways i.e. either manually or by using MySQL Database Wizards.

Manually MySQL Database Creation

Follow these steps:

  1. Login to the cPanel of your website
  2. Under Databases section click on MySQL Databasescreatingandmanagingdatabasessteps1
  3. Now give a name to your database and hit Create Database buttonCreate New Database
  4. Now scroll down to the MySQL Users section on the same page, here you need to create a new user by filling up a small form, after filling it click on Create User buttonAssociate User
  5. In the next step, go to Add User To Database section on the same page, select the newly created database and newly created user and click on Add buttonAdd New Database User
  6. Give full permission to the user by checking on All Privileges at the top and then click on the Make Changes button.Give Privileges

The database will not be listed on the MySQL Databases page. You can delete it or change the associated user from the same page.

  1. Login to the cPanel of your website
  2. Under Database section click on MySQL Database WizardMySQL Database Wizard
  3. Now you will be presented with a wizard, follow each step carefully and choose a strong passwordFollow The Guide Wizard

This wizard will also help you in creating and associating a user to the database.

Few Things To Note:

Always choose a strong non-predictable password for the database. Use a combination of symbols, numbers, small and capital alphabets.

Be sure to associate only a relevant user to the database. If someone from outside gets the access to the associated user, he or she can easily implant malicious code on your website.
